My Grandpa Harper's Funeral

My Grandpa, Blaine Thomas Harper, died October 25, 2008. He was 76 years old. His funeral was November 1, 2008. He had several mini strokes and eventually his body wasn't able to function. We were all a little surprised how fast he died, but view it now as a blessing that he didn't have to suffer long or be in a nursing home. The funeral was very healing for me since my relationship with him hasn't been the best for several years. I wish I would have known what was happening to his brain and I would have reacted differently to several of our conversations. I do love him and will always have fond memories of what a great grandpa he was for most of my life. He was a hard worker. He had a lot of faith to come to Idaho and start farming. I can't imagine what courage that would have taken. The farm became a big success and was passed on to my dad and his brother. It has been a huge blessing in the lives of our families. It taught us all how to work hard and has given us a wonderful life style. Grandpa loved us and always wanted to teach us to Work Hard and Play Hard - Get it done and Have fun. He was full of little sayings like this. Anyway the funeral was great and it was good to see some much love and support from family and friends.

Grandpa and Grandma loved each other for 59 years!
This is at our family reunion last summer. Grandpa always loved to share his stories.
My dad was the oldest, then Gloria, Susie, Dennis, Marty (who died at age two), and Kathy
Nate and I with my sweet grandma
My brother Darin and his family
My Wonderful Dad placing his rose on the casket.
My boy Parker looking on.
Madi placing a flower.
Part of the family - there were two many of us to fit in one picture.
My beautiful mom and Ashley
My brother Nolan and his new baby girl, Grace, Thomas, and wife, Ashley.

Farming was Grandpa's great accomplishment. He loved it.
We will always love you Grandpa.

What a great post Jenny. You have a good way with words, and I think we all feel similar in that we wish we could have been more sensitive to Grandpa. The funeral really helped to see what he was like as a young boy, husband, and father. You did so well in the life sketch. I am glad we were able to see you, but sad it went to fast to get to really sit down and chat. You have such a fun, beautiful family I was glad to spend time playing with Madi and Ashley before the funeral, they're so sweet.

I'm sorry Jenny. I've always heard wonderful things from you about your family farm. You were lucky to grow up around that. That was a cute pic of your grandpa and grandma kissing. Good luck with your busy schedule!
P.S. I have a brother Darren also who has 3 boys and 1 girl. But I notice your brother had one more..boy, was it?
